Our Founder

Ed W. Grimes is the president and founder of Grimes Funeral Home. He is a native of Silsbee, Texas, and moved to Houston at an early age. He attended Houston Public schools and graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School. From an early age, he was interested in funeral service. However, during that era, funeral homes were a closed family business. After high school, he continued his education at Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He later attended Howard University to pursue the study of science.

While in Washington, D.C., his interest in funeral service was reignited. Through friends, he was introduced to the Hargett family, who owned one of the oldest funeral homes in Greensboro, N.C. He visited the family one weekend, and from that meeting was convinced he had found his calling.

He returned to Houston and enrolled in the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service. He graduated with a certificate in Funeral Directing and Embalming in 1977.

In 1994, his dream of being in funeral service became a reality when the doors of Grimes Funeral Home were opened. He entered into funeral service to serve all of the families in Houston with the compassion and dedicated service they deserve.
