Bireline J
Simmons
Jul 16, 1933 — Apr 26, 2026
Houston
With deep love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Bireline Jacqueline Moore Simmons, a devoted woman of faith, family, and strength whose legacy will continue through the generations she nurtured and inspired.
Bireline Jacqueline Moore Simmons was born on July 16, 1933, in the Spanish Camp Community of Wharton County, Texas, to the proud parents, Adrie Jefferson Moore and Eddie Brook Moore. Raised in a close-knit and faith-filled community, she developed the strong values, compassion, and resilience that would guide her throughout her life.
At an early age, Bireline dedicated her life to Christ. In 1940, she joined Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.E. Combs and was baptized that same year at Sandy Creek. Her faith remained a cornerstone of her life and was reflected in the love, wisdom, and encouragement she shared with others.
Bireline discovered her love for music at the young age of 10 after being gifted her first Kimbel piano by her grandparents. What began as a gift soon became a lifelong passion and ministry. Alongside her beloved cousin, Josie Randle, the two became well known throughout the community for their musical talents and were affectionately known as the Community Pianists. Though cousins by birth, Bireline and Josie shared a bond much deeper - growing up as sisters and remaining faithfully by one another’s side throughout
life.
She attended Spanish Camp Elementary School and later graduated in 1952 from Cresent Colored High School in Glen Flora, Texas.
Following graduation, she continued her education at Prairie View Extension in Galveston, Texas, during 1952–1953 and later attended Texas Southern University in 1954. Bireline is a life-time member of the T.L. Pink Alumni.
On September 11, 1955, Bireline united in holy matrimony with Henry A. Simmons. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children: Sharlet Faye, Hannie Erle “Brother,” and Patrice Renell.
In 1961, Bireline joined Blueridge Baptist Church, where she faithfully continued her walk with Christ. Later, Bireline faithfully served at Greater Hope and shared her musical gifts through the Music Ministry, blessing many with her dedication and love for worship.
She also served as the BTU Director, Mission President and South Texas District Association Mission ladies musician.
In March of 1970, Bireline began working for the United States Post Office, where she faithfully served until her retirement in 1992. In 1973, Bireline became a faithful member of the Friendship, Social and Charity Club where she was able to serve the community.
Bireline was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hannie and Ella Jefferson, who raised her, her parents, Adrie Jefferson Moore and
Eddie Brook Moore; three brothers, Allen Moore, Leonard Moore, and Campbell Stell Moore; and one sister, Esther Moore, her aunt, Willie Randall, and uncles Stonewall and Johnnie Jefferson.
Bireline leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Sharlet Simmons McGowen (Donald) and Patrice Simmons Hood (Pastor
Gregory); one son, Hannie Erle “Brother” Simmons (Regina); eight grandchildren, Corey (Tamara), Jacqueline “Jackie,” Norman (Rosa),
Quenton, Sharlet “Baby Sharlet” (Michael II), Jinna, Elisabeth, and Daniel (Princess); six great-grandchildren, CJ, Chance, Trenton,
Michael “Lil Man,” Logan, and Baby Malachi on the way; her aunt, Juanita “Dehlia” Hatter; her sister/cousin, Josie Hurd; Brandon, who held a special place in her heart; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Bireline will be remembered for her strength, unwavering faith, loving spirit, her zealous opinions, many jokes, fantastic dance moves, and dedication to her family, community, and her love for taking care of others. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, perseverance, and unconditional love that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Early Sunday morning, April 26, Bireline took the glory train home to Heaven, where we know she is now singing in the heavenly choir, praising God all day long and singing her song of faith, “Lord I’ve Tried” with the same joy, grace, and beautiful spirit that blessed so many throughout her life.
Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on through her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched along the way.
